- When I went out very early the other morning to work the cows, I heard what sounded like far off loud mewing of a baby kitten, I tried to listen to see where it was coming from, but it was too dark for me to see much at 5:30 in the morning. I went about getting the cows in and didn’t think anything of it until much later when I went out to see Hank standing over this little fawn. We let him loose to mow the lawn during the day, but he had been back in that corner almost the entire time. He must have been keeping an eye on it. I saw the donkeys back there too, they’re always very interested in any babies, wanting to keep them safe and herd them. I wasn’t sure I was seeing right when I went out to fetch him, it was just so funny to see big huge Hank out there protecting this little tiny newborn fawn. Hank wouldn’t even come when we called him, he just stood still, standing over her. We picked her up and put her in the chicken run until evening to keep her safe (I had found another baby fawn in the back pasture just last week torn apart by buzzards) and then I put her back where I found her under a tree after the sun had set. I went out the next morning and there was no sign of her anywhere, so I assume that her momma came back to fetch her after dark.

- Some more Instagram photos that I took that I’m really loving:

- I love it when the moonlight glints off the tops of the tall cumulus clouds, lighting them up in most pleasing ways.
- Birds on twitter. (a guy fastens pork fat to a keyboard and as the birds eat it, they type a message that gets sent to twitter).
- When I walked into my office, my laptop was telling me all the keys the cat sat on because she managed to turn on Microsoft Narrator when I forgot to close the lid.
- Little crescent moons in the sky before a cool sunrise (and being awake enough to catch it!)
- A day to myself, a doctor’s appointment, a nice lunch and then japanese style iced coffee and macarons.
- We accept Walkens.

- Plum jam/sauce spiced with star anise.
- A homemade lasagna for dinner and cooking myself lunch of sautéed beef heart, lemon yellow squash and kale sautéed in bacon fat.
- Quote of the day: “Never make lasagna for someone you don’t care about.”
- This is on my list of things to make: limoncello tiramisu.
- Bacon, sausage, green chili and cheese biscuits and cinnamon rolls for Sunday breakfast.
- Smooth cortados, especially shared.

- The ice-cold root beers that are the exact perfect thing that you need.
- Killing time in tea shops while wearing cute dresses and amazing boots.

- I love Mr. Rogers and this list of awesome things about him kind of made me cry a little.
- A map showing original meanings of place names in America. Kind of fun, I have a mild obsession with maps. And sharpies. And post-it notes. And great bathtubs.

- I can’t even imagine this carbon fiber hammock bathtub, but the concept is so enticing.

- Queso Bandito!
- Maple chocolate fudge (yesplease!)
- Katydid video the other night: this is what nighttime sounds like out here.
- The evening of the full moon it was super bright outside, damn near daylight, nice with a breeze so I decided to go for a walk. Came back because I didn’t feel like having a run in with hogs or a deer jumping out of the brush and scaring the poop out of me. After, sitting in my tub basking in the moonlight listening to the night bugs and I wished I wasn’t such a chicken.
- Another beautiful evening, nice and cool on the drive home with the windows down. The next morning, beautifully chilly with a cloudless sunrise through the trees and the crescent moon shining high through the branches. I woke up at 4:30 and the moon was shining in through the bathroom window at me.
- When you can sit, and feast on your life.
- If I had to pare my shoe collection (which isn’t that extensive anyway) down to only three, it would probably be these. Comfy Bistro Crocs for scuffing around the farm, boots for going out or riding/working cows, and these amazing (and discontinued) tennies for running and exercise.

- This russian tampax commercial made me laugh so hard I snorted.
- They are making American Gods for HBO…could be good, or could break my nice head movies I already have. Though I do have to agree with this compilation of dream casting.
- Perfect early morning cow pictures. I love these shots so much, I’m going to have the first one printed out for hanging.

- What did you think I said:

“You got a haddock bum”

What I actually said:

“Do you have a hat that I could bum?”

- A really good, super productive day with the family.

- Watching the turkeys after we’ve let them out of the coop to wander around.
- This article really expanded my mind. Who am I, really?
- Solar system lollipops.
- I’m in love with these Demonbells kettleballs. I am going to ask for one for my birthday.

- Watching the giant hazy orange disc of the moon climb over the horizon looking huge among the backdrop of the trees and houses. Pure perfection watching it play hide and seek driving towards it on the way home.
- Quote of the day: “This ain’t no beer belly, this is my fuel tank for my hug machine.”
- Not that fires are good, but fighting a good fight in a huge, meandering, heavy-brush wildfire. And while I melted a quarter inch off the bottom of my boots and ended up really sick after it, it was still good to be part of a big huge team helping out our neighbors and keeping their homes and properties safe.
- 31 ways to use lemon peels
- A bucket of budgie feathers is pretty darn happy if I say so.

- Took two of our cows in for processing (one heifer and one calf) and while I’m sad that they are gone because they each definitely had their own personality, I also feel like I am a responsible meat eater at the same time. I was also not too far off from my guesses of their live weights; a little high on the calf, but almost right on for the other).
- Cherry pie and stars and stripes courtesy of my favorite pie shop.

- Toronto teens send a lego man up, up and away!

- A beautiful new Big Bend video showing at the visitor’s center.
- Sunset up on the pavement.

- Russian diver strips down to tame down belugas because whales may not be fans of fabric materials. Makes for stunningly beautiful photographs.

- So lovely, Texas at night from the ISS. I can see my little local towns, can you?

- Bookstore in a train car
